CSA School Governance Program Short Courses 1&2

Bring your boards to up-skill them in their critical roles and responsibilities of governance. Your board sets the school's vision, mission, values and goals and this training will ensure that they are operating most effectively and in line with best practice.

 

Event Information

This in-person, members-only event is run over two full days.

The training is tailored to Boards and Principals.

Day 1, Course 1 will be facilitated by Jill Healey. Day 2 Course 2 will be facilitate by Mark Spencer.

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided for each day. You will be given an option to specify dietary requirements at registration.

Program Outline

Each day commences at 8.30am and ends at 3.30pm.

An outline of the topics for each day is provided below:

  • Day 1 - Short Course 1: Good governance practice, foundations of governance, legal framework, decision making and board processes
  • Day 2 - Short Course 2: Financial governance, financial reporting, financial performance, Principal and Executive oversight.

Speakers

Jill Healey

Jill Healey, AM, is a passionate contributor to leadership development at Christian Schools Australia, serving as the Flame and Fuse Facilitator. Jill currently serves on two Christian school boards, is a Board member for Endeavour Ministries, as well as an active member of the Victorian Independent Schools BGA Board. Jill is a champion of Christian women in leadership and specialist education provision in Christian schools. She believes in the power of God to transform lives and bring hope to young people through Christian education.

Mark Spencer

Mark is responsible for advocacy on behalf of CSA member schools in a wide range of educational policy as well as areas relating to religious freedom and equal opportunity and discrimination law, both at the Commonwealth and State/Territory level. Mark provides initial advice to schools in all non-educational operations including funding, finance, governance, management, media management and industrial relations. Mark is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants after graduating with a Bachelor of Business degree with a major in accounting. He went on to complete a Master of Labour Relations and Law degree in 1999 and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies with a High Distinction average in 2016. Mark is also a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia. In 2014 he completed an executive education program at the Said Business School of the University of Oxford.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations must be made in writing to the Event Organiser. Unfortunately, no refunds will be issued after 7 days out from the event. Any cancellations made after this date will be charged the full registration fee. 'No Shows' to the event will be charged the full registration fee. 

The event program is subject to change and we may not be able to provide prior notice.

Please note that registration fees do not include insurance to cover loss of any fees/deposit through cancellation of your participation in the event or through cancellation of the event itself.

A full refund will be issued if the event is cancelled by the organiser (CSA) due to COVID-19 restrictions or any other reasons out of the organisers control.

Qualify for CPD Hours

At the conclusion of this event, a certificate of professional learning will be made available to attendees for self-accreditation via your member dashboard. The event will address the following AITSL professional teacher and leadership standards: 

» 7.1 - Meet professional ethics and responsibilities 
» 7.2 - Comply with legislative, administrative and organisational requirements

With Christian Distinctive Focus:

» 7B - Contributes to the development of distinctive Christian practice in the school, profession and community
